Trust me, at the opening of the 2009 “Sinksenfoor” funfair I only had Belgian waffles. No 75m (230 ft) speed-rides for me.

some rich locals in their € 1 milion river side penthouses are complaining about the noise of this funfair…

Brabo, most of the people living here are not rich, but people with kids and jobs, who have trouble getting up in the morning in time to find their car that they had to park miles away because of the crowds. People who cant be in their living rooms because kids holding screaming contests while hanging in the air are gazing at them in their own homes.
Who cant walk around in the street because of the foul smell of HUNDREDS of people pissing in front of their door instead of finding a toilet.
A few people here are rich, sure. Is that reason enough to treat all of us like shit?
We could stand it one week, maybe even two. But SIX WEEKS?
And it IS 2009 now, and it hasnt been moved. It’s completely incomprehensible why it stays here. It’s murderous for most local businesses (very few low end cafe and fastfood providers aside) as their normal clients cant come, there is no parking space, no toilets, no sense. Finding a proper location would probably get the organisers a lot more money, and improve life and business here considerably.
[Blog author: "I can understand the noise issues Martin: I'd have trouble facing that funfair in front of my door. On the other hand, the "sinksenfoor" funfair has been at that location for over 40 years, so for all those who bought the exclusive and expensive condominiums facing that place: it was not exactly a surprise, was it?. Antwerp city council has a reputation of ignoring the real needs of its downtown citizens (the disgraceful approval for the upcoming killer Oosterweel noise/pollution bridge is a prime example), while selling out to the developers and tourists. I dread to think how they will butcher the riverbanks during the next years. I'd move to the green suburbia if I could afford it. Thanks for commenting from Antwerp. "]

To all the sinksenfoor moaners
I used to live in a side street of the sinksenfoor during my childhood. In those days this area of antwerpen was full of slumps and the only people who used to live there could not afford to live elsewhere. We had to put up with the noise from the sinksenfoor, the circus and smaller faregrounds during the year.Ofcourse no one battered an eyelid in those days.
This area has now been redeveloped, the original habitants have been driven out so don’t start moaning about the noise if it was good enough for us it should be good enough for all those living in”posh street avenue”
[Blog author: "I couldn't agree more dandan. But Antwerp really cares about its (rich) citizens: a VLD politician has already promised he will do everything to relocate the fair. Money talks in this town."]
