  1. Interesting. Happy New Year!!

[Blog author: "Happy New Year Terri. Unfortunately this "idyllic" scene has been covered by the worst snow/ice/cold we've had in a decade, with daytime temps dropping way below freezing - I guess you're in a warmer spot on the planet. "]

  2. Well, all that beer and wine has to go somewhere. ;-) Now, How come I don’t see a nice bottle of Budweiser in that grouping? :-D

[Blog author: "Maybe Budweiser pays to have their bottles returned Mr. Nighttime. Seriously though: Bud is totally insignificant in Antwerp, with marginal sales and no advertising. Like you can notice, most of the bottles were wine, I spotted even a few from California ;-) "]

  3. Whoa! Shouldn’t have had my speakers on full blast! Happy New Year! Hope you had a great holiday. We did and really enjoyed the snow in Santa Fe.

[Blog author: "Happy New Year Peace! Santa Fe in the snow sounds divine - I'm currently stuck in the slightly less divine downtown Antwerp snow, at a highly unusual -10°C/10°F. I know the very loud Santa Run video auto-runs, and there's no way for me to stop it. Clever guys at Q-music, hard-coding an auto-run in their video.. "]

  5. stick a few candles in those and you’ll have a lovely bonfire to keep warm.

[Blog author: "Great idea VioletSky. Unfortunately this Antwerp underground glass disposal/recycling unit was emptied the day after I took this shot. They even fixed the broken tiles. Antwerp locals are totally hooked on recycling: in addition to glass and paper containers I have to buy blue bags for plastic and cans, green ones for anything organic, plus white ones for anything "not recyclable". To be honest, I'm not hooked, but forced by local laws. Fines up to € 250 (US $400) for not complying. "]

  6. I wasn’t sure what those tubes were – so it’s an underground bottle bank? Ingenious.

We can now take our wine, liquor and beer bottles back to the beer store for a refund. Many people can’t be bothered and just leave them in their ‘blue box’ so the enterprising will troll the streets on recycling night and take what they can find to get the refund. Apparently it is a good business!

  7. A testament to fun times and recycling … can’t beat that!

P.S. Sorry, I’ve been AWOL … very busy with life and finally launching my blog, plus I confess, I’ve quickly left the last few times because of the blaring Santa Run audio. It’s scares the bejeezus out of me every time! This time I persevered to say hi. ;-) Hope you eventually find another option for the Santa run video … sometimes I am so faint of heart. LOL

[Blog author: "Glad to see your website is online Shirley! Must find a way to stop the blaring Santa Run audio - guess that simply clicking "stop" in the player (or me removing it altogether) is the best solution for the time being - it will disappear automatically (soon), since new posts will push it to page two. Thanks for saying Hi. "]

  8. Let me guess, these things are right outside your apartment? ;-)

[Blog author: "For once I'm really relieved this glass container is situated near city hall Simon, away from my home. Imagine listening to the sound of crashing glass 24/7 ;-) "]

  9. Nice shot, Peter.

I like that Simon thought it was outside your house and not mine ;)

[Blog author: "Thanks Di. I actually never have that many empty bottles since my place isn't large enough to accommodate that many guests. Loved the idea though :-D "]
