“Free Space to Three Gigabytes”
“Much of the work we do at Automattic [= the company running wordpress.com] is behind the scenes, infrastructure you’ll (hopefully) never notice or see, but we’re always thinking about how the improvements we make to the foundation of the site will allow us to build more interesting things on top of it.
Today, one of those developments comes to fruition — everyone’s free upload space has been increased 60x from 50mb to 3,000mb. To get the same amount of space at our nearest competitor, Typepad, you’d pay at least $300 a year. Blogger only gives you 1GB. We’re doing the same thing for free.
Our hope is that much in the same way Gmail transformed the way people think about email, we’ll give people the freedom to blog rich media without having to worry about how many kilobytes are left in their upload space.
How are we able to do this? Over the past year we’ve developed our file infrastructure, replication, backup, caching, and S3-backed storage to the point where we don’t feel like we need to artificially limit what you folks are able to upload just to keep up with growth. We’re ready for you.”
Imagine, getting 60 times more blogging space for free, but having nothing substantial to write about today

that’s the way it always works doesn’t it. it’s kind of like whenever you come upon a windfall of money, something always breaks

That’s the way the world turns Furiousball
Actually, it’s been quite busy over here, but ever since I noticed some close friends and relatives in my stats, it somehow cramped my style..

You can always write about having nothing to write about…

Guess that might make people fall asleep Simon. While life has been hectic, some closer friends ‘discovered’ me through the URL on my images (google is your friend). Some were not really pleased as several of my posts don’t sound like the “oh, you’re sooo great” write-ups they expected

Hello you, I almost smsed you from Via Via yesterday but I really had gone there to work and the red wine was terrible, so best I didn’t. I’m quite fortunate, I started the blog for family and friends but very few read it now, other than my sister and another 2-3 friends. I guess it worked out well. I get a lot of searches on my site though … lol I think I write too much for anyone to keep up and maybe it slips into boring a little too often actually.
Good luck with the block.
xo

I actually passed by Via Via yesterday Di, early afternoon. I would have sad a quick hello if I had known you were there
While life has been hectic these past days, I just don’t feel like sharing every personal event with the whole world at this time. I suppose I’m trying to find the right mix: not too much focused on the many drive-by readers who flock in droves to keywords like ‘prostitution’, ’sex with animals’ and ‘Sharon Osbourne’, but also not too much focus on personal stories. I was actually quite surprised to notice members of my family do read this blog. See you soon - XO

Isn’t it funny how we can say so much to strangers and then choke up with people we know that we should feel comfortable with?

That’s pretty cool. I still prefer the Blogger platform though, and since I have my own domain, hard drive space isn’t a concern….

As usual, right on target, Veronica. Basically, I was quite “unkind” to several of my less-than-deserving siblings and former diving buddies, and as could be expected they eventually ‘found’ me through Google image search (great traffic lead). I had not expected them to read this blog. They know how I feel, but reading it apparently made a much stronger impact. Followed by a truly deafening silence. Oh well, nothing broken that needed fixing anyway.
Welcome in Antwerp, by the way
You’re right Diesel, nothing beats an own domain. I own one, but I prefer not to blog on a URL with my full name
Thanks for dropping by, I admire much of your work.

Peter!!!
Hate it when that happens. But I don’t seem to run out of things to say that often, not lately at any rate. Whether what I have to say is of any interest to anyone or not, well, that’s a different beast, now isn’t it?!
Kisses from Cape Cod!

It's been rather hectic over here and I have to make some rather important personal choices soon, making blogging temporarily less important. XO from a rainy Antwerp!"]
